Ask Sydne: What Do I Wear With a Camel Mini Skirt?

I bought a camel pleather mini skirt. I am stuck on which color tights and what type of shoes would go with this skirt. Please help!! The skirt is too cute to be sitting in my closet all winter long! —Kristina

I’m a huge fan of camel. And a leather skirt is a great way to bring the color into your wardrobe! Here are some ideas to get that skirt out of your closet and into use…

For Day…
Camel is incredibly chic in a monochromatic palette. Try mixing your skirt with a matching sweater, tan booties and gold jewelry. Then, mix it up when it comes to tights. Continue the head-to-toe hues with caramel hosiery or bring in some color in with deep berry or navy. Gray also mixes incredibly well with camel, and in cableknit gives the look a preppy feel (plus the fabric is extra warm!).

1. J. Crew Merino turtleneck ($69.50 $39.99)
2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bonkers necklace ($98)
3. Catherine Malandrino skirt ($495 $222.75)
4. Theory booties ($169.99)
5. Topshop tights in Ginger ($12)
6. Modcloth tights in wine ($14.99)
7. Kohl’s Hot Sox tights in Navy ($14)
8. Topshop grey cableknit tights ($24)

For night…
To dress up camel for a night out, bring in black and sparkle, like a sequined top and statement necklace. For tights, you can certainly do solid black, but why not have a little fun with glittery legs, patterns or even a bold red? I threw in a leopard pump but if that’s too loud for your taste, a black suede or patent pump works equally as well.

1. J. Crew Drapey sequin tank ($78 $29.99)
2. Adia Kibur layered necklace ($125 $62.50)
3. Catherine Malandrino skirt ($495 $222.75)
4. Sam Edelman Yasmine pumps ($115)
5. Modcloth Dancing Like a Star tights ($29.99)
6. Express Butterfly tights ($22.90)
7. Modcloth Tights in red ($14.99)

Love it! I’ve never been able to figure out how to wear a camel (or tan) knee-length skirt, but you make it look so easy :)

I did get a few ideas from Academy of Art University’s fashion show, but I find it a little difficult to incorporate trends from the runway into everyday wear. I’ll definitely be investing in some colored tights soon!

Adore the theory booties and red tights you selected as options!

So glad it helped! Colored tights are great for mixing up looks.
