Fashion always comes back into style, especially denim. That’s why it’s always so hard for me to part with my jeans. Chances are, they’ll eventually make a comeback.
One style that’s back is the ‘80s high-waist jeans. GUESS just launched their 1981 jeans, a throwback to the high-rise style. I went with the Lyon wash ($98) to try out the trend. The darker wash gives the jeans a more modern feel. And the super stretch makes sure they fit in all the right places, which is perfect if you have some curves.
The trick to wearing retro pieces is adding modern touches. One of the biggest color trends I saw on the spring runways was blush and black. So I added classic pale pink pointy pumps and a black top from GUESS. You can never go wrong with stripes! Plus, when you’re wearing higher waist styles, you want something fitted you can tuck in.
While you could add a contrasting color belt, I wanted to keep a streamlined look so I went with a skinny black cincher. To finish off the look, I added rose gold jewelry to bring more of a now element to the ‘80s style denim.
