Each year, I try to make a theme for my New Years resolutions. This year’s theme is…
Stop and smell the roses.
I’ve always had trouble feeling satisfied. I can’t relax because I’m constantly worried about what’s next. Instead of patting myself on the back for a job well done, I worry about my next project being bigger and better. As much as I love my job and feel so incredibly lucky to be able to do what I do, it certainly doesn’t help my anxiety. I rarely enjoy downtime because I find myself feeling the need to document everything!
So in 2017, I want to try to take moments, whether they’re five minutes a day or an hour a day, to truly enjoy life and be thankful for everything I have. Some days it might be through exercise (and leaving my phone in the locker!) others it might be through trying a new recipe. And when I travel (which I want to do a lot more of!) I want to take you with me but also take the time to look up and fully take in my surroundings. Here’s the list I came up with for my 2017 New Years Resolutions:
- Learn how to meditate
- Implement social media downtime
- Work out at least three times a week
- Read more books
- Cook at least once a week
- Compliment someone daily
The last resolution is actually one I made two years ago that continues to be one of my favorites. Every day, I compliment at least one person. It ranges from my best friend to the barista at my local coffee shop to a new person I’m following on Instagram. It’s amazing how just a small compliment can make someone’s day, and in return make you smile… and stop and smell the roses of life.
What are your resolutions for 2017?
