New Years Resolutions

12.29.16

Sydne Style shows pretty hotel rooms in Paris at balcony of Westin Vendome with roses from hotel costes Each year, I try to make a theme for my New Years resolutions. This year’s theme is…

Stop and smell the roses.

I’ve always had trouble feeling satisfied.  I can’t relax because I’m constantly worried about what’s next. Instead of patting myself on the back for a job well done, I worry about my next project being bigger and better. As much as I love my job and feel so incredibly lucky to be able to do what I do, it certainly doesn’t help my anxiety. I rarely enjoy downtime because I find myself feeling the need to document everything!

So in 2017, I want to try  to take moments, whether they’re five minutes a day or an hour a day, to truly enjoy life and be thankful for everything I have. Some days it might be through exercise (and leaving my phone in the locker!) others it might be through trying a new recipe. And when I travel (which I want to do a lot more of!) I want to take you with me but also take the time to look up and fully take in my surroundings. Here’s the list I came up with for my 2017 New Years Resolutions:

  • Learn how to meditate
  • Implement social media downtime
  • Work out at least three times a week
  • Read more books
  • Cook at least once a week
  • Compliment someone daily

The last resolution is actually one I made two years ago that continues to be one of my favorites. Every day, I compliment at least one person. It ranges from my best friend to the barista at my local coffee shop to a new person I’m following on Instagram. It’s amazing how just a small compliment can make someone’s day, and in return make you smile… and stop and smell the roses of life.

What are your resolutions for 2017?

Loved this post, I could recognise myself in every single word that you wrote and I have set myself pretty much the same and very realistic resolutions for 2017. I hope that we can both be more present in the moment, do tap ourselves on the shoulders when we do well and do take a moment to just be happy “here and now” without every single moment thinking about the moment that is not here yet and what or if it will be what we want/ need.
Best of wishes to you beauty in 2017!

I totally agree Syd!!! I love this post! I was just thinking today that I need to focus on getting back to the small things in life. We get so caught up in feeling the need to fit in, that we forget to enjoy being alive, and being our true selves. AND complimenting someone everyday is something I am trying to incorporate into my everyday life. Cheers to 2017!!!
