4 Easy Steps to Get Silky Smooth Straight Hair

Sydne Style shows all white outfit ideas for summer trends When I first decided to cut my long hair into a modern lob (a long bob) with my mane man Sean, I was nervous. I haven’t changed my hairstyle since I was a teenager! At first, I felt I lost all the sex appeal I achieved from my long loose waves. But now I couldn’t be happier. Shorter hair is so easy!

My favorite way to wear my new hair is silky and straight. It’s a quick hairstyle and looks so much healthier when I work with my natural texture instead of forcing a different look. Here are my four easy steps to get silky smooth straight hair:

After I shower, I use a heat protector spray. There a bunch of options available. I like Brocato Cloud 9 Hot Shapes Heat Protector because it also has a UV protector, which helps keep my hair color in tact. You simply spray it on your damp hair, then brush through.

My hair is naturally pretty straight with a slight wave. So when weather and time permits, I try to let it air dry to keep it healthier. You can also blowdry if you have wavier hair or are running late.

2. Straighten With a Hot Paddle Brush

Once my hair is dry, I quickly straighten it. I used to use a traditional hair straightener, but with my shorter hair I’ve switched to the Conair Ceramic Hot Brush. I simply section off my hair, straighten the bottom, then run the brush through the top as well. It straightens while still keeping the volume. I’ve also found it to make my hair smoother than a traditional straightener.

3. SPRAY TO COMBAT FRIZZ

I’ve been obsessed with Garnier Frizz Guard. I spray it onto my straightened hair to get rid of frizz and flyaways. Then I shake my hair and run a brush through. It’s super lightweight and adds extra shine.

4.USE A TOOTHBRUSH TO GET RID OF FLYAWAYS

In Los Angeles, I stop at step number three. But in more humid climates, like New York City, I add my favorite hair trick to tame extra stubborn flyaways. I learned this toothbrush trick from a hairstylist on set when I used to work at Style Network. You simply spray a toothbrush with hairspray then lightly brush the toothbrush over any frizz or flyaways.

I’ve been using L’Oreal Elnett hairspray for years. But this trick works with whatever hairspray you have in your beauty cabinet. Just make sure to use a different color toothbrush so you don’t accidentally brush your teeth later with hairspray bristles!
