ttF Fashion Diary: My So-Called

ttF Fashion Staple: 90s Floral Dress
Thanks to the fashion world’s revival of the 90s, layering a tee under spaghetti straps is acceptable once again. And it’s perfect for days you want to wear a little floral dress without revealing too much on top. I felt like a beachy version of My So-Called Life while running errands today in my peach and pink mix. And in San Diego, running errands means you get to walk past gorgeous backdrops like this floral wall we discovered on our walk.

ttF Fashion Diary: Sunset Florals

ttF Fashion Staple: 90s Floral Dress
I drove down to San Diego today to spend the week with my mom and our pups by the beach. In the rush of getting ready I of course forgot to photograph and pack all my new ttF Fashion Staples. So I’ll have to do a breakdown for May later. In the meantime, here’s one of the six items I’ll be featuring. It’s a floral month!

The beauty of a floral cotton dress is you can wear it day and night. Since it can get chilly in the evening, I tapped into the season’s denim jacket trend and added a pop of color with What I Wore‘s orange necklace (I just had to give it one more SoCal photo op before shipping it back to Indiana). The beauty of leatherette heels is you can kick them off to watch the sunset on the beach and not worry about getting them sandy when you slip them back on for a casual dinner.

ttF Fashion Staples Series Outfit #17: May Florals

April showers bring May flowers. And considering florals are one of the biggest trends for spring, I just had to get in bloom with my fashion staples. While I’m all about mixing prints, wearing this many florals together is a big N-O. But it sure was fun to pile them on for a pic!

Here’s the breakdown of the 6 Fashion Staples I’ll be wearing at least 6 different times for the next 31 days:

1. Sheer Floral Button-Down (Equipment)
Every time I pass the D&G store on Robertson I can’t help but swoon over the floral window display. That’s why I was thrilled when I cam across this rose print blouse. It has same floaty garden feeling as Mario Testino’s spring ad campaign—just at a price that I can afford.

2. Floral Statement Necklace (Kate Spade)
I’m always encouraging women to invest in statement necklaces. They’re the easiest way to update your look. And this yellow piece couldn’t be any more cheerful! The enamel is casual enough to wear during the day but the Swarovski accents make it dressy for night as well.

3. Black Rose (Tasha)
Last year, I showed 6 ways to wear a floral brooch. But it was a little girlie for some people’s tastes. So this year I’m taking a more refined approach to the trend with a black rose pin.

4. Floral Scarf (Bindya New York)
There are so many scarves out right now I had trouble settling on just one. That is until I came across this yellow print. The color is seasonless so even though it was a little more expensive than some of the other options being able to wear it into fall makes it worth the splurge.

5. 90s Floral Dress (MINKPINK)
With the revival of the 90s in the fashion world, I was thrilled to find this little dress by Australian label MINKPINK. It goes from day to night and the full skirt is certainly twirl-worthy.

6. Floral Wedges (Steve Madden)
At 5’3 I always feel the need to wear heels. And I’ve had wonderful luck with Steve Madden’s platform when it comes to comfort. So with a 30% scratch & save coupon in my hand, seeing these printed beauties was a no brainer.
