(Mindy Kaling, Diane Kruger, Nicole Richie)
Even though fall doesn’t technically begin until September 22, tomorrow aka Labor Day, marks the unofficial end of summer. I don’t know where you live but in LA, the weather doesn’t get the fall fashion memo. Luckily, there are pieces that easily transition. Enter the leather skirt. For now, I’ll go bare-legged, like the celebs above. And in a few months, I’ll layer on the tights, boots and sweaters.
I decided to go with an A-line shape, which is flattering for all body types. And instead of the real thing I bought a vegan option from Shopbop. It’s less expensive, and animal friendly. Here are 4 affordable options, including the Free People one I plan to put into heavy rotation:
1. Free People, $128
2. Sparkle & Fade, $69
4. Karl, $175
(Diane Kruger, Pippa Middleton, Rachel McAdams)
With all the September issues on the newsstands, everyone (including myself!) is getting excited for fall fashion. But it’s still summer until September 22. So focus on pieces in your closet that easily take you from season to season. A striped skirt is a proven classic. It’s just as popular now as it was when Rachel wore it at New York Fashion Week in 2009. And as Pippa shows, with tights, you can easily rock it in cooler weather. Here are some of my affordable faves:
1. Forever 21, $11.80
2. Free People,
3. Ann Taylor, $78
4. BLQ. MKT,
Stay tuned to see how I wear my striped skirt in this week’s Staples Series.

Polka dots are one print that continue to pop into fashion. And I’m thrilled! They’re so playful and allow for endless styling possibilities. A skirt is an inexpensive way to bring the trend into your wardrobe. Here are my four picks under $100:
1. Forever 21, $17.80
2. Aqua, $78
3. Pip + Larkin, $59
4. Kenneth Cole, $99.50
Stay tuned to see how I style my Forever 21 skirt high-low three ways in this week’s Staples Series!
My hands down favorite look at the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards was Diane Kruger in Jason Wu and Harry Winston jewels. The only word to describe her is absolute perfection. Lea Michele in Malandrino was my runner up.
