(Jessica Alba, Emma Roberts in Nanette Lepore, Marion Cotillard in Prabal Gurung)
Printed pants have been on trend for a while now. I did the whole patterned denim thing but pants scared me. For my body type, it’s much easier to find jeans then a trouser. And when there’s a print involved you really need the pant to fit! But I absolutely loved how Jessica made the look so effortless so I decided to give it a go. I picked up a pair from H&M, which you’ll see styled three times this week. In the meantime, shop my other finds under $200–including Emma and Marion’s exact versions!

Every award season, I’m inspired by wearable trends on the red carpet. And considering the Met Ball is the Oscars of the East Coast I figured I’d do a round-up of looks you can incorporate into your own wardrobe.
HAIR PINSKirsten Dunst in Rodarte, Emma Stone in Lanvin, Dakota Fanning in Louis Vuitton
Sparkly barrettes are an easy way to inject some shine into your locks. Though most of us can’t afford a Lanvin clip like Emma, you can easily get the look by attaching a bobby pin to an inexpensive brooch. I also loved Dakota’s chic flower girl look: daisy accents on a half-up do.
Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou, Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy, Eva Mendes in Prada, Emma Roberts in Escada
Peplum is one of the biggest trends this season. And it was all over the red carpet. Follow Emma’s lead and accent a tiny waist with a skinny belt. If you’re curvier like Eva, try to find a peplum dress or top with an embellished top half to balance out your bottom half.
DARK LIPSCamilla Belle in Ralph Lauren, Jessica Alba in Michael Kors, Leighton Meester in Marchesa, Kate Bosworth in Prada
Actresses vamped it up on the red carpet at the Met Ball. And some did it better than others. When trying the trend, make sure to compliment the bold lip color with a filled in brow. But steer clear from overdoing it with the bronzer. A more matte face is preferable to shine.
And just for fun, here are my top picks of the night… Who were your faves? (more…)
The Staple: Denim Jacket
The Celebrities: Keira Knightley, Chloë Sevigny, Sophia Bush, Emma Roberts
Sometime it’s true, stars are just like us. Take a look at Keira Knightley, who has left the Comedy Theatre in London wearing the same denim jacket and leather satchel not two but three times! Meanwhile, across the pond, Chloë put her fashion forward spin on the American jean staple with a Western fringe vest while co-hosting this week’s Kiehl’s Earth Day exclusive event. Over in Vegas, Sophia went simple with black skinnies but my fave was Julia Roberts’ niece who used the denim to make a maxi more laid back at the Celebration of TEXTILE Elizabeth and James.
