Inspiration From the Met Costume Institute Gala

Every award season, I’m inspired by wearable trends on the red carpet. And considering the Met Ball is the Oscars of the East Coast I figured I’d do a round-up of looks you can incorporate into your own wardrobe.

HAIR PINSKirsten Dunst in Rodarte, Emma Stone in Lanvin, Dakota Fanning in Louis Vuitton

Sparkly barrettes are an easy way to inject some shine into your locks. Though most of us can’t afford a Lanvin clip like Emma, you can easily get the look by attaching a bobby pin to an inexpensive brooch. I also loved Dakota’s chic flower girl look: daisy accents on a half-up do.

PEPLUM
Elizabeth Banks in Mary Katrantzou, Solange Knowles in Rachel Roy, Eva Mendes in Prada, Emma Roberts in Escada

Peplum is one of the biggest trends this season. And it was all over the red carpet. Follow Emma’s lead and accent a tiny waist with a skinny belt. If you’re curvier like Eva, try to find a peplum dress or top with an embellished top half to balance out your bottom half.

DARK LIPSCamilla Belle in Ralph Lauren, Jessica Alba in Michael Kors, Leighton Meester in Marchesa, Kate Bosworth in Prada

Actresses vamped it up on the red carpet at the Met Ball. And some did it better than others. When trying the trend, make sure to compliment the bold lip color with a filled in brow. But steer clear from overdoing it with the bronzer. A more matte face is preferable to shine.

And just for fun, here are my top picks of the night… Who were your faves? (more…)

ttF Daily Fave: J. Crew Clustered Constellation Cardigan

J. Crew Clustered Constellation Cardigan Like Miu Miu Fall Collection

Everywhere I look recently I see Miu Miu gemstones. First, it was on Chloë Sevigny and Eva Mendes at MOCA’s Anniversary. Then on Thandie Newton and Chloë a second time at a Prada party.  Next, Heidi Montag slips on Miu Miu’s bejewled knee-highs with Christian Louboutin booties. And tonight, I came home for the holidays and what new purchase does my mother show me? A J. Crew Clustered Constellation Cardigan ($168) that could easily fit in with Miuccia Prada’s fall collection.

The photo online really doesn’t do the cashmere/wool sweater justice. It’s much more sparkly and looks ten times more expensive in real life. Since it’s over $150, it qualifies for free shipping with the code EXTRA20. I’m thinking of getting one for myself but I’ll probably wait to see if it goes on sale first. It’s so hard to buy things these days for full price!
