ttF Fashion Staples Month #7 Summary: July Blues
July was such an incredibly busy month from event planning to birthdays. The majority of the month was also abnormally cold! So I had to use July Staples to look summery while keeping warm. Even though the theme of July was denim, I rarely went for casual looks. It really just goes to show you how incredibly versatile jean can be.

Here’s the breakdown for July…

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Cute as a Button
A belt can make such a drastic difference in an outfit. I used to wear this dress sans belt. It was cute but did absolutely nothing for my figure. By cinching my waist, I created even more volume in the bubble skirt. A color would have broken up the dress so I went with plastic—plus, I didn’t want to distract from the cool button neckline.

Sue Wong dress, plastic belt I bought on eBay, ring my friend bought me at Bergdorf Goodman, Melissa Vivienne Westwood Lady Dragon Ball shoes

One of the most wonderful things about fashion blogs is you can get inspired by people you normally would never see. I recently fell in love with this look on What I Wore. Crop tops are in this season but I just haven’t been a fan. Blogger Jessica made showing your tummy fashionable by showing just a peek of skin. A few weeks later, Jessica Alba created a similar outfit while running errands in Paris.

For my take, I used a skirt that I wore to my high school graduation (white eyelet always comes back in style), threw on my ridiculously comfortable espadrilles and strapped on the Michele watch I was given for my participation in Society Stylist’s Little Black Dress Experiment Tours America (more about that to come soon). I felt so carefree in the outfit that I decided I needed a jumping shot. With no remote for my camera, it was pretty difficult!

Aside from the voluminous 60s, one of my favorite hairstyle were the flirty ponytails of the 50s. Today, I tried to get the look by tying a piece of fabric I cut off ages ago from a Rebecca Taylor blouse. The print tied in the magenta color of the skirt, wayfarers added to the retro feel and T-strap peep-toes pulled it all together.

ttF Fashion Diary: LBD Goddess

ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Goddess
I bought this headband at an art fair down in Laguna and whenever I wear it I feel like a goddess. I could have gone all out ala Nicole Richie with the whole Grecian theme but instead mixed it up with a classic LBD and funky shoes. I had to do my usual twirl in the skirt and instead of a belt, I went for a bold statement necklace I received at last moth’s LOFT party. The coolest thing about the necklace is you can tie the ribbon around your waist as a belt. I’m thinking of doing that when I style my Ann Taylor dress for Society Stylist‘s “Little Black Dress Experiment” Tours America. I’m super excited to be featured as one of the 31 bloggers next month!
