The Scene: NYFW Day 6

Sydne Style - New York Fashion Week Jenny Packham Vanessa Hudgens Katherine Heigl(Vanessa Hudgens, backstage at Jenny Packham, Katherine Heigl, runway, Empire lobby, saying bye to NYC)

For my last day of fashion week, I attended one of my absolute favorite shows: Jenny Packham. Backstage, the designer told me she wants her clothing to evoke an emotion. For me, that emotion was love. Each embellished dress was more beautiful than the next. It was the perfect ending to an incredibly chic week.

Keeping with the girlie theme of the day, I went with lace for my look, edging it up a bit with a studded belt. I didn’t have much time to get ready so I threw my hair back into a sleek ponytail and added a red lip. It’s my go to quick-fix when I need to up the glam factor.

Happy New Year! Let’s kick off the Sydne Style Lucky 13, shall we?  One of the biggest trends I saw at New York Fashion Week was lace. And this Maggy London Red Lace Dress ($148) is just as stunning as the lovely feminine pieces that walked down the runway. It’s ladylike with a dash of sex appeal, one of my favorite combos.

And the winner is….

Ask Sydne: What to Wear to a Black Tie Optional Wedding

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a black tie optional wedding in Virginia. It’s one of the toughest dress code. Cocktail attire makes sense. You wear a cocktail dress… like this. But black tie optional? That can mean a gown or a fancy shorter dress depending on the location.

To be safe, I went with a simple gown, borrowed from BCBG. To make it a little more casual, I played with color by adding a matching clutch and contrasting necklace.

If you go long, avoid bling and opt for understated fabrics like jersey. The opposite applies if you go short. Look for fancier materials, like satin or sequins. And dress it up with statement jewelry and metallic heels. A high low hemline is also a great medium. And the same rules apply as for every wedding: no white!

Here are some options I found online:
1. BCBGMaxAzria, $328
2. Twobirds, $310 (wear it two ways!)
3. Maggy London, $148
4. Lauren by Ralph Lauren, $198
5. T by Tadashi, $158
6. JS Collections, $248
7. Vera Wang, $495
8. T by Tadashi, $138
