Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Still Loving… Glitz

glitzJust as I’m starting to get sequined out, Nina Ricci designer Olivier Theysken comes along scattering gold beads over my girl crush, Lily Donaldson. The sequined shoes were a little much, but that turtleneck gown was one of my favorite looks of Paris Fashion Week. It made me fall in love with sparkle, shimmer and shine all over again.

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Excited For… Sculpted

sculptedKate Beckinsale’s sculpted J. Mendel dress was one of my favorite looks at the Golden Globes. Next year, I hope she wears one of Nina Ricci’s equally stunning gowns from Paris Fashion Week. In the words of Rachel Zoe, the bottom right one is Bananas!

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends Excited For… Balloon Sleeves

balloonIn case you can’t tell from the pictures above, a balloon sleeve is full on top and gets narrower on bottom. All the volume distracts from the lower body, so the sleeve is great if you’re trying to conceal a tummy. If you’re like me, and have narrow shoulders, a balloon sleeve evens out your shape.

The ones in Paris were a little extreme but Christopher Fischer’s balloon sleeve dress is a basic you can wear now and later. Dress it up with a bright skinny belt, bib necklace and heels or keep it casual with flats. The A-line makes it universally flattering.

Fall 2009 Paris Fashion Week Trends: Hesitant About… Micro Minis

micro-miniI love mini dresses. I’m wearing one right now in fact—with opaque tights of course, since I’m at work. But micro minis can be a little much, especially when the dress has a chest-exposing sweetheart neckline. Isabel Marant tried to make her animal print micro mini wearable by styling it with a blazer. It worked on Erin Wasson, but who has thighs like that?
