The Scene: HP Project Runway Party

Sydne Style HP Project Runway Party Fashion WeekI’ve been watching Project Runway since designer Jay McCarroll and my high school friend, model Julia Beynon, won in Season 1. And I’ve been hooked ever since. One of my favorite episodes is the HP Challenge, where designers use HP computers to create prints, which are later turned into custom textiles. So imagine my excitement when I was asked to speak at the Project Runway Designer Reunion pre-event panel during fashion week! (more…)

The Scene: LA Fashion Week

(Tracy Reese + me, Clos du Bois & Tracy Reese picnic basket, Mila Hermanovski, cape at Mila’s show, Mary Katrantzou pencil dress, Cameron Silver’s Decades collaboration with Modern Vintage, Nicholas Kirkwood glitter, Style Fashion Week at Vibiana, Richard Nicoll colored leather)

Los Angeles Fashion Week is very different from New York. There’s no Lincoln Center, no taxis and certainly no Anna Wintour. But there are pretty spectacular events! Take meeting designer Tracy Reese, for example, at the beautiful Viceroy over Clos du Bois Chardonnay. Or getting to see Mila Hermanovski’s show after watching her all season on Project Runway All Stars. Or getting an up close look at fabulous British designers at London Show Rooms without having to hop across the pond. And where else but LA do you get to preview Cameron Silver’s new line while getting filmed for a new Bravo reality show?

Beauty Trend: Polka Dot Nails

I was obsessed with Kate Spade’s fall presentation as a whole. But when it came to beauty I could not get over the Deborah Lippmann polka dot manicures! Dots are a huge this season. And nails are an inexpensive way to hop on the trend.

Instead of replicating the black and white version, I was inspired by Kenley Collin’s colorful designs on Project Runway.  My white and hot pink mani even made me dress Kenley-esqe.  I mixed prints, went ultra girlie and slipped on cat-eye frames for a retro finish.

That’s what I love about beauty trends. They inspire you when getting dressed.

Rebecca Taylor cardigan and blouse, Forever 21 skirt and belt, Aldo sunnies, Gisélle shoes c/o Marchez Vous, Nicole by OPI “Here Kim’s the Bride” and OPI “Koala Bear-y”
Tip: When doing the manicure at home, make sure to let your base color dry completely before attempting the polka dots. Then, seal the two layers with a top coat to avoid chipping.

ttF Video: Rowenta Style Ambassador Althea Harper

Rowenta is the world’s finest high-performance iron and garment steamer brand. And for be the fifth season, they’re the official garment care provider of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York at Lincoln Center. Yesterday, Rowenta hosted a pop-up iron station at the tents, with their Style Ambassador Althea Harper. Fashion week attendees (including myself!) had a blast decorating tees and totes by ironing on fashionable illustrations, inspired by Althea’s spring collection.

I got the pleasure of interviewing the designer, who was a runner up on Project Runway Season 6. We chatted about her involvement with the brand, upcoming trends for Spring 2012 and the inspiration behind her iron-on designs. Check it out in the video above!

And if you’re around the tents, make sure to pop by the Rowenta station to take a pic in their photo booth. You can tweet it to @RowentaUSA and @SydneSummer—and I’ll retweet your fab photo!
