ttF Fashion Staple: Rhinestone Necklace
Considering temperatures in the city are heating up, I went with a sleek ponytail to keep cool today. This top already has an illusion necklace but I thought it would be fun to have an extra layer so I added my rhinestone necklace to the faux pearls. With an all black and gray outfit, a bold lip added the perfect pop of color.

I kicked off the morning at Tory Burch’s very first runway show. And the designer brought her A-game to the runway with a French themed collection of stripes and polka dots, gorgeous tweed jackets and Gatsby-esque gowns. Next, it was off to Badgley Mischka. The ornate dresses in metallics and florals were beautiful. But I couldn’t get over the colorful leather from the Mark + James collection, especially a marigold bustier dress and emerald moto jacket.

By the end of the day, my top unfortunately got pretty wrinkled. I wish I could have popped backstage to use a Rowenta steamer (the brand is a sponsor at the tents). Lesson learned: no more silk for a full day at fashion week!

ttF Fashion Diary: New York Anniversaries

ttF Fashion Staple: Rhinestone Necklace
I’m in New York this week covering fashion week. The shows begin tomorrow but the parties have already started! Because it’s been raining non stop, I wanted to go with a fabric that wouldn’t show raindrops. So I glammed up a LBD with two statement necklaces and added a faux leather jacket.

Remember last month when I said I did a photo shoot with Arrojo Salon? Well, tonight was the big reveal at Arrojo’s 10th Anniversary bash. It was so fun to see the wall of gorgeous pics of my fellow bloggers, shot by David Ducane. And it was a pleasure meeting Nick, who I always loved when watching the stylist give makeovers on What Not to Wear.

After celebrating it was off to another anniversary bash: BlackBook Magazine’s 15th Anniversary party at the Dream Hotel. Cover star Alexander Skarsgard was honored (major swoon!) and sat at a booth with co-star Kristin Bauer. Yes, Eric Northman and Pam together. The True Blood moment was the perfect kick-off to what is going to be one very exciting week. Stay tuned…

ttF Fashion Staples Series Outfit #21: September Twist

September is always a difficult month. You’re transitioning from summer into fall but the weather is often too warm to wear all those upcoming trends you adore. That’s why this month I kept to classics… just with a twist.

Here’s the breakdown of the 6 Fashion Staples I’ll be wearing at least 6 different times for the next 30 days.

And check out my YouTube channel for an Up Close look at each piece!

1. Embellished Navy Blouse (Cynthia Steffe)
A navy silk top is a staple that will never go out of style. But this blouse is anything but basic, thanks to rosette embellishments. I especially love the leather contrasted with feminine tulle and the mix of navy and black.

2. Rhinestone Necklace (Aqua)
A sparkly necklace is a classic. Just think Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. But the ornate costume jewelry can be mixed with other necklaces and more casual pieces, giving it a modern twist. I found this one on major sale at Bloomingdale’s and just had to scoop it up.

3. Ladylike Jacket (Rebecca Taylor)
You can never go wrong with a feminine jacket. There are so many variations these days, from tweed to bold color. I bought this one years ago because I was drawn to the mix of pearls and ribbon. You can use it instead of a blazer with suiting or wear it to dress up a pair of jeans.

4. Chain Belt (vintage)
I scored this belt for $10 at the Los Feliz Fashion Fest. It was a little big but a trip to my shoemaker fixed that in under an hour. The thick black leather is a classic but the gold chain give it an unexpected pop of edge.

5. Orange Pencil Skirt (J. Crew)
I’m thrilled pencil skirts are huge for fall. They’re one of my absolute favorite trends (I featured a black one last year). A bright orange version makes the sexy silhouette more playful and right in tune with this season’s bright color story.

6.  Colorful Snakeskin Pumps (Zara)
Exotics have become a wardrobe staple. But this season, snakeskin gets amplified with vibrant colors. If you’re scared of going too bright, mustard is a safe way to ease into the trend.
