The Scene: NYFW Day 2

A snow storm decided to hit fashion week on Day 2. I brightened up the day with vivid colorblocking. The brights were right in line with Kate Spade’s colorful Fall 2013 presentation. From the prints to the bow purses and gold capped shoes,  I was obsessed with everything!

After a few meetings, it was time to brave Nemo and step out to Nicole Miller, who showed a darker side with her tomboy inspired collection. There was one blazer with leather sleeves I’d kill for!

The Scene: NYFW Day 1

Sydne Style - New York Fashion Week Day 1 BCBG Tadashi Shoji Candela Timo Weiland(BCBG runway, with Lubov Azria, Timo Weiland runway, Tadashi Shjoi runway, Vente-Privee wall, Candela presentation)

Today was my first day and the tents, and I kicked it off with one of my favorite shows, BCBG. Last season, Max and Lubov Azria showed black and white (which I wore for my fashion week Day 1 look). But for fall, it was all about soft neutrals and rich navy and burgundy. Yes, ladies, oxblood is still in for next year! Long layers gave a bohemian vibe and the beanies looked oh so warm.

Over at Timo Weiland, a similar color palette came down the runway, with the addition of olive green. Next it was on to Tadashi Shoji, who was inspired by Russian opulence. Translation? Lots of luxe velvet and lace with high necklines and long sleeves. I particularly liked the red dresses, which I immediately imagined for Kate Middleton. Finally, I popped into the Candela presentation and loved the edgy contrast of leather and tulle.

I ended the day with a meeting at Vente-Privee and just had to share their innovative shoe wall. Their team spray painted vintage shoes, securing them to the wall with push pins. Can you say genius DIY project? After a delicious dinner at Barbuto it was time to end a wonderful first day of fashion week.

Spring 2013 New York Fashion Week Trends: Xposed Midriff

(Jason Wu, Marchesa, Richard Chai Love, Timo Weiland)

Too scared to bare your abs last spring? Well, you’ll have another chance in 2013. Skin was the new black on the runways. To make this trend work in real life, steer clear of showing off your belly-button. Instead, opt for a sliver of flesh peeking out above a high-waist skirt.

Creamsicle Chic

The Staple: Cropped Orange Jacket
Pairing orange with off-white always makes me crave a creamsicle. It’s such a fresh color combo for spring. Inspired by Rachel Bilson, I went with neutral accessories. This necklace is actually named the Sydne necklace! It will be available soon at my friend Deniz’s shop, Sugar and Sequins. To finish off the look, I went with chunky platforms to contrast the girlieness up top.
