Sometimes we must walk through the darkness to fin

Sometimes we must walk through the darkness to find the light. Hatred in our country is nothing new. It’s not a new trend. My hope that is out of this darkness we can all be more aware of our thoughts and actions moving forward. I’ve always tried my best to be as inclusive as possible. But I definitely have a lot to learn. We all do. And I hope we all continue to do so. I watched a movie a few weeks ago called “Best of Enemies.” It’s based on a true story about the rivalry of an outspoken civil rights activist and a local KKK leader leader in the South. Their hatred for each other turns into an unlikely friendship. While the event occurred in early ‘70s the messaging is still so important today: We need to listen and have the uncomfortable conversations to stop the hate and protect human rights. We must go through the darkness if we want to find the light.
So as people “unmute” I hope we are all still actively listening, and use these lessons in all our actions moving forward to create much needed change. 🙏🏿🙏🏼🙏🏽

I’ve never personally experienced racism and I‘m grateful for that every day of my life. While I can’t understand what my black friends are going through I stand with them. What’s happening right now scares me to no end. I took a break from posting this weekend to just absorb. I read non stop. I listened to what everyone had to say. I had uncomfortable conversations with friends and family. And through it all, I couldn’t stop thinking about my grandfather, a Holocaust survivor. I’m white but I’m also Jewish. I’ve always gotten the same reaction when people learn that about me. “Really? You’re Jewish? You don’t look Jewish.” If all they know is stereotypes then I suppose they’re right. My family doesn’t “look Jewish.” And it’s partly what kept my grandfather alive when he escaped a concentration camp after the Nazis shot his entire family. Because he didn’t “look” Jewish he was able to to run between Germany and Poland until finally fleeing to the United States. America was his place of refuge. It was a country that allowed him to escape the brutality and hate... and feel safe. Look at America now. My grandfather instilled into my mother and then me the importance of acceptance and the dangers of hate. I can’t imagine the horror he’d feel if he saw what was happening in our country. If you don’t think what’s happening right now applies to you you’re wrong. We need to stand together. Hate destroys. So yes, I understand that I will never understand. But I stand with you. Because #blacklivesmatter And to everyone, no matter your skin color, please stop the hate. Please read. Please listen. Please educate. Please stand together. 🙏🏾🙏🏻🙏🏽

However you can get the conversation going, please start it.
