Ask Sydne: Carry-On Essentials

Sydne-Style-what-to-pack-in-a-carry-on-bag-travel-tips-fashion-blogger-style-beauty-ideas-tieks-henri-bendel-rodialI recently got a request about a travel tips blog post after instagramming this photo. So I figured I’d take this week while I’m actually home in LA to dish about my carry-on essentials. Since I’m always on the go, I try to stick to a formula. I think about what I need on the plane as well as products I can quickly reach for when I get off.

Onboard: Tieks ballet flats  / Smith’s Lip Balm / Henri Bendel earphones and pen (similar) / Rodial Glam Balm / Gratitude Journal

Even when I’m wearing boots on a plane, I always bring along my Tieks. The ballet flats roll up super easily, are as comfy as slippers and make for much better footwear than socks when I have to get up to use the restroom. The minute I take my seat, I apply Rodial Glam Balm all over my face and hands. It’s incredibly moisturizing and helps combat dry air from planes. For my lips, I’ve been obsessed with Smith’s Rosebud Salve since college. I alternate between the original and minted rose flavor. And of, course, what trip isn’t complete without some good magazines? I also like to bring along a gratitude journal for some self-reflection during the flight.

When we start to descend, I like to have a few essentials on hand to freshen up. First, I clean my face with Olay Regenerist wipes. I find them to be very moisturizing without adding oil. Then I use BareMinerals tinted moisturizer for a dewy look. I add blush and bronzer with Urban Decay’s Naked palette in Flushed, using my Too Faced brush since it comes in a retractable, travel-friendly case. I dab on a little perfume (obsessed with Elizabeth & James Nirvana!) then swipe on my go-to everyday lipstick: Stila in Evangeline. I keep everything in my Stella & Dot case, which that has a built-in hanger (great for hotel bathrooms!). Unless I do gels, I travel with fairly neutral nails. So I bring along Essie in Fiji, which is opaque enough to do an extra coat in case there’s chips.

Sydne-Style-what-to-pack-in-a-carry-on-bag-travel-tips-fashion-blogger-style-beauty-ideas-luna-bar-think-thin-old-navy-scarf-foster-grant-beroccaWellness and Style: ThinkThin Bars / Luna Bars / BaubleBar necklace / Foster Grant sunglasses / Old Navy scarf / Berocca

I always pack snacks. My faves are Lemon Zest Luna Bars and Brownie Crunch ThinkThin bars. My boyfriend brought me back the best vitamins called Berocca. You dissolve them in water and they give you energy after a long flight. A scarf is an essential. I use it as an eye-pillow, blanket, you name it! I go pretty minimal with my jewelry when traveling so I’ll bring along a statement necklace in case I’m craving some sparkle when I get off the plane. My girl Grace’s crystal one is a great neutral. And a pair of sunnies are a must!

I pack everything in this Longchamps tote. It unzips and expands to give you extra room in case you buy extra goodies on your trip! Here’s a pic of me carrying it during a recent East Coast trip. Can you believe I packed 7 days worth of clothes in those two bags?!

What are your travel tips? I hope mine help you next time you’re packing your carry-on!
