DIY Shooting Star Halloween Costume Idea

Sydne Style shows how to be a star for halloweenI wanted to be the solar eclipse for Halloween this year. But with very little time for a DIY project, I wasn’t sure I could make a half sun and half moon costume in time. Plus, I’ve been staying at a hotel. So painting wasn’t really an option.

While searching Pinterest for the best Halloween costumes for women, I was inspired by a few celestial costume ideas. Two images really stuck with me: this amazing star crown and Lana Turner in the 1941 musical, Ziegfeld Girl.

Sydne Style shows how to diy a star bagI immediately started looking online for sheer star clothing and star accessories. With some glue and a few sewing kits my hotel brought me, my shooting star costume was born.

If you like the celestial idea and want to make it for next year, here’s how I made my Shooting Star costume…

Shooting Star Materials

  • Star Top: Thanks to the trend, there are so many options online!
  • Tulle Skirt: I went with gold glitter but you can also do a star print or just plain tulle
  • Star Garland: I did two different sizes, both a 2-inch and 2.75-inch for variation
  • Star Wire Tinsel: With Christmas around the corner this one is easy to find, but I bought mine online
  • Heavy Duty Glue: E600 is my go-to for DIY projects!
  • Gold Star Confetti: We used gold stars for the eye makeup attached with eyelash glue
  • Sewing Kit: Any basic one will do
  • Duct tape: I used this for the crown.

Shooting Star DIY
  • The top was super easy. I didn’t do anything aside from layer a sparkly bandeau underneath.
  • For the skirt, I cut the garland to the the length of the skirt then glued the large stars on the waistband. I glued a few more stars throughout the skirt so the garland didn’t get tangled. To make it extra secure, I sewed the top pieces to the waistband.
  • I used a makeup bag as my clutch and glued two stars on the side. Then I used a sharpie to write “Shoot for the Stars.”
  • The crown was the trickiest part. I started with a thin headband and cut stars in half and glued them on the headband. Then I kept layering the wire garland around to create height. I taped the stars to the wire with duct tape, glued some on top, then glued stars on the back so the tape wouldn’t show. Some stars I hung by tying the string from the garland to the wire of the headband. It’s really an experimental process and you keep building as you go.
  • For extra sparkle, I painted gold glitter nail polish on some of the stars and my nails.

I hope you liked my celestial costume and have a wonderful Halloween!

This is a nice day–Halloween. So if people can have a suitable hair, it will be funny like 30 inch 613 lace front wig
    Kiss!
