Effortless Game Day Outfits: Casual Chic Looks I Love

Sydne Style shows how to wear a sweatshirt and jeans for casual outfit ideas

Whether it’s going to a baseball game, watching your college team at a fun bar, or hosting Monday night football at home, there’s a good chance you’ll need at least a few cute game day outfits. So, what do you wear?

You can go all out with team apparel, but I prefer to keep it simple. I’m not a die-hard fan of any team, though my family has been Chiefs fans since before Taylor Swift made it a thing. I also have a few Dodgers pieces from my LA days. But honestly, I don’t own much branded gear for any sport. That’s why I rely on three key pieces to create a stylish game day look:

Staples for Game Day Outfits

  1. Oversized Graphic Team Tee
  2. Cardigan
  3. Baseball Cap

I’m using the Chiefs as an example, but these outfit ideas work for any team. Let’s break down how to style each piece, whether you’re heading out to watch the game or staying home with snacks.

Oversized Graphic Team Tee

Instead of buying an oversized tee, I just grab a men’s shirt (I wear a size S). You can borrow one from your husband, boyfriend, or a friend. The oversized fit balances perfectly with high-waist bottoms.

Skinny jeans are making a comeback, and as an elder Millennial, I’m glad I kept mine. They pair perfectly with cowboy boots—thanks, Taylor Swift, for the inspo. But any knee-high boots work! For added balance, I throw on a roomy denim jacket.

Watching the Super Bowl at home? I’ll probably wear my tee with high-waist joggers and a cropped sweatshirt. To elevate the look, I swap slippers for cute sneakers or ballet flats.

Style Tip: Cuff the sleeves of your oversized tee twice for a feminine touch.

Great places to shop for oversized graphic team tees: Junk Food, Abercrombie, Old Navy

Cardigan

I’ve always been a cardigan girl, even more so as a mom. They’re easy to throw over tanks and tees! I found some great ones at Target—affordable, machine washable, and they come with matching tanks.

For game day outings, I wear a team-colored cardigan over a neutral outfit to make it pop. At home, I swap sweatshirts for cardigans over tees. I love my “denim sweats” because they’re as comfy as joggers but look like jeans.

Where I shop for affordable cardis: Old Navy, J.Crew Factory, Target

Baseball Cap

Last Super Bowl, I borrowed one of my dad’s Chiefs caps—a quick fix to make an all-black outfit game-day ready. Now I have my own, thanks to a Target run for Halloween costumes.

At home, I pair my cap with a cozy sweater and my favorite flare leggings. They’re super flattering and the deep pockets are mom-approved.

Pro Tip: Stretchy pants are a must for Super Bowl snacking. My mom’s nachos are legendary, and here’s the recipe in case you missed it last year: Nachos Supreme Recipe.

Whatever your plans, having a few go-to pieces makes getting dressed for game day effortless. It’s all about mixing comfort with a little personal style so you can focus on enjoying the game (or the snacks).

That tip about borrowing a men’s tee is gold! 🤣 I’m totally raiding my husband’s closet this weekend. Thanks for the inspo – now I’m actually excited to get dressed for the Super Bowl! And those nachos… definitely trying your mom’s recipe! 😋
