A retro hairstyle can instantly give a whole new look to any outfit. That’s why I’m thrilled I get to partner with TRESemmé for their Throwback Thursday series. Over the next few months, I’ll be creating different hairstyles based on some of my fave fashion icons of the past. First up? Miss Veronica.
The Old Hollywood actress was known for her seductive peekaboo waves. To get the look, I prepped my locks with TRESemmé Platinum Strength Shampoo and Conditioner. The duo helps fortify and strengthen hair, and even repairs up to two years of damage! Having smooth hair is key to creating this style.
After towel-drying, I added TRESemmé Platinum Strength Heat Spray to protect my hair from damage and breakage. I used a comb to create a deep side part, then blow dried my hair fairly straight. Next, I took a 1-inch barrel iron to create uniform ringlets all over my head. After each curl, for a flexible and soft hold, I sprayed TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray. Once my curls cooled off, I used a fine tooth comb so the curls molded together. I re-sprayed and repeated three times.
The hairstyle begged to be matched with Old Hollywood makeup: matte skin, a rosy cheek (skip the bronzer!), thick black eyeliner, dark brows and, of course, a bold red lip. I’ve worn this black dress multiple times. But the retro hair and makeup gave it a whole new look.
The best part about this hairstyle? It doesn’t go out of style! Back at fashion week in 2011, a TRESemmé hairstylist created a very similar look for me in the tents. I’d love to see how you create your retro hairstyles! Join the fun by tagging #TRESthrowback on Instagram!
