ttF Fashion Staple: Crystal Bow Heels
Every year, my friend Page hosts an Anything But Clothes Christmas party. This year, I was finally able to attend and was so excited about creating a costume. The premise is like an episode of Project Runway. You use holiday materials to make a DIY outfit for the party.
I created a bustier top with holiday cards and postcards I was sent by the National Wildlife Federation. First, I cut the cards into small rectangles, and then hot glue-gunned them together. I made the top in two pieces: I secured a sweetheart neckline bandeau with fuzz from a Santa hat. Then tucked that into a midsection, which I laced up like a corset with silver ribbon. I then glue-gunned silver poinsettias across the waist to make it look like a belt. For the skirt, I simply glue-gunned layer after layer of silver tinsel for a festive fringe mini. I used the top of a Santa hat for a ring and a leftover flower with a piece of ribbon as a headband.
The paper didn’t hold up as well in the rain as my friend Jamie’s tinfoil dress or Jess’ white trash couture tutu. But I’d like to think Heidi Klum would have loved my look when it came down the runway. The skirt had so much movement as I walked and I must admit, the top was pretty cute.
LOVE IT! Now I know what to do with all the Christmas cards that are just sitting in a box.

I absolutely LOVE your dress! I am going to an ABC christmas party this weekend and I was searching for ideas on google and that’s how I found yours. I was wondering where you bought the tinsel to make the skirt with? 🙂 I would like to make something similar but don’t know where I could find it!

Nope, I didn’t have it lined. I did two layers of fringe and wore boy shorts underneath. I hot glue-gunned it together while it was wrapped around my waist, so I had to break it to get out of it. But it was a one-night skirt anyway 😉
