One Black Skirt and White Tee, The Art of Accessories’ 4 Looks

My favorite feature on ThinkThruFashion is showing how with a little creativity, you can make one item work for many different occasions. As much as I love digging through my closet to create outfit after outfit, I’m also curious how my fellow bloggers think through their wardrobes. So I’ve asked a few of them to take an item in their closet and style in various ways. First up? The fabulous DWJ of Art of Accessories. My fave is #3. It’s classic with a colorful twist. And those blue nails are so fun! But enough about my thoughts, here’s what DWJ had to say about her four looks…

My wardrobe goes one of two ways: Either it’s bold in-your-face prints or it’s really simple basics that I have to accessorize into the look I want. You’d think just a white scoop neck tee and a full black skirt can be boring, but the options are really limitless.

1. For a night out with the girls I might edge it up a bit with black and a lot of shine. This silver belt is snakeskin embossed and I love the snakeskin embossed cutout booties—very rocker chick cool. Add a long multi-strand silver necklace, lots of bangles and a purple patent clutch and I’m good to go out for the night.

2. On the total flipside of that outfit, if I want to wear the same thing but I know I’m going to brunch or want to be casually cute, I’ll add a bit more color. The green boyfriend cardigan and fun clear belt brighten up my day and the yellow handbag adds a bit of punch. I also threw in a colorful sterling silver beaded necklace with multicolor beads, so I could wear any other punch of color I please.

3. For high tea or an afternoon event with my girls I step it up pops of turquoise color on my necklace and peep toes. The white bag is just simple, clean and fun and the full skirt becomes the focus.

4. I love more feminine and fun details for work, so I added a chunkier link necklace, ruffled cardigan and short pink heels.

I adore accessories and think they’re a great way to really expand your wardrobe. Add a cardigan here, a bag there, different shoes here and no one will be the wiser that you’re wearing the same two pieces over and over again. —DWJ of Art of Accessories

While these are all fabulous outfits it’s amazing to me how #3 is so slimming! I love how the belt accents the waist in all of these, showing off her narrowest point and accentuating her curves. The dark skirt and the white top accented with a blue necklace brings the focus upward to the face and makes the bottom half look sleek and slim. Love it!
