I met my younger self for coffee today.
I was 5 minutes late.
She arrived 10 minutes after me.

She ordered a large skinny latte.
I ordered a large iced oat milk latte.

She wore her hair long, straight,
and parted to the side.
I did too—just with a natural slight wave.

She wore low-rise skinny jeans,
a tube top, and a Gucci pouchette.
I wore my casual classic uniform:
high-rise straight jeans, a button-down,
and my mom tote.

I got us a table to breathe in the ocean air.
She asked if I had a lighter.

She told me how she just got in early decision
for college and was going to be editor-in-chief
of a fashion magazine by 30,
married at 32, kid-free, and living in Paris.

I told her I’ve worked in fashion since
after we graduated—
on TV and online, and mostly for myself.
I’m a single mom and live in San Diego.

She asked if we’re still popular.
I smiled and said, those things don’t matter anymore.

She asked if I still felt empty.
Tears started dripping down my eyes as I said no.
I didn’t want to scare her
about how long it took us to get here.
Instead, I gave her what she needed at the moment.

I got up and wrapped my arms around her.

I felt one tiny tear drip onto my arm from her face.
You’ll be able to release it one day, I tell her.
Trust me, you’re stronger than you think.

We both put on our sunglasses—
Chanel for her, Ray-Bans for me.

And we headed out into the sunshine,
feeling a little more whole walking side by side.

When it comes to wide leg pants, it’s all about proportions! You’ll see I have my top tucked in to define my waist, so my body isn’t overwhelmed by fabric.

Oversized jackets work, but keeping them cropped (at the waist or just below) balances the volume. This one is my fave because it’s adjustable!

2️⃣ Mid-Thigh & Lean
For more coverage, try a jacket that hits mid-thigh or above the knee—but keep it lean! A tailored blazer elevates the look, while a denim shirt (like I styled here) keeps it casual.

3️⃣ Long & Fluid
If you love long coats, go for flowy ones that still show some shape for a flattering effect.

After a muddy trip to the dog park last week, I had to wash the dogs. As a single mom, Preston comes with me—and somehow, even chores turn into giggle-filled adventures. Definitely my favorite glimmer of the week. 💛

Side note: Preston refuses to let me wear my hair up. No buns, no ponytails, no clips. He takes them all out just to play with my (desperately in need of a haircut) hair. Any other mamas dealing with this? 💆🏻‍♀️
