ttF Daily Fave: Rent the Runway

Rent the Runway Lets you Borrow DressesRemember when Jennifer Hudson‘s character, Louise, in Sex and the City introduced her boss to Bag, Borrow or Steal, now called Avelle? Well if Louise makes it back for the sequel, she might just teach Carrie Bradshaw about Rent the Runway.

Instead of handbags, the new site loans out high fashion dresses for as little as $50-$200 for four nights. They’re even willing to send along an additional size of your dress at no extra cost, plus a styling kit with double-sided tape, bra strap adjusters and deodorant stain removers.

I wish they had this service around when I was in school. Could you imagine how cool it would have been to be able to wear Proenza Schouler to prom?

Although, a high school student might not necessarily get accepted to the invite-only rental service. I’ve been on vacay for the past five days so I just got around to signing up and I’m on a wait list, since Rent the Runway tries to limit the number of memberships.

As amazing as the service seems, part of me is hesitant. I remember when I borrowed a Hervé Léger bandage dress from a showroom one night. Since it was a sample, it had been worn over and over, and the bust area was so stretched out that I had to do some major last minute fixes with safety pins. Granted, Rent the Runway has damage insurance so hopefully the dresses are in pristine condition when they arrive. I’m looking forward to seeing for myself when I receive my membership, hopefully in time for the party-filled holiday season.
