ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: Christina Aguilera “Dirrty”
My friend is obsessed with Christina Aguilera. So we decided to make his Halloween party Xtina-themed, with all his fave girls dressing up like one of the singer’s music videos throughout her career from her Mickey Mouse Club days to “Lady Marmalade” and “Candyman,” all the way up to “Burlesque.” I got “Dirrty.”
Normally, I dress feminine and classy. But for one day out of the year I was willing to dress opposite of my norm. I wanted my costume to be exact, so I made it myself. I bought two bikinis, one red and one white, to create the striped piece Christina wore in her video. After ordering chaps online, I went to the fabric store and hot glue-gunned red strips down the side and painted XTINA and 72. I bought platinum clip-in hair extensions and braided them with my own hair to recreate Xtina’s two-tone ‘do. The week of, I applied self tanner every day, and even bought stick-on earrings at Claire’s for a faux nose ring. Awful makeup, including Taylor Momsen style eyes and a nude lip, completed the transformation. And I even incorporated my fashion staple by tying the necklace around my wrist as a bracelet. But as much fun as I had dressing “Dirrty” I was thrilled to come home, shower and return to my usual clean look.
