ttF Fashion Staples Series Outfit #16: April Colorblock

My absolute favorite trend for spring is colorblocking. The bold, bright combos bring a smile to my face. While already colorblocked pieces are fresh and modern, you can create your own combinations with vibrant separates. I did a mix of both this month to help you get inspired.

Here’s the breakdown of the 6 Fashion Staples I’ll be wearing at least 6 different times for the next 30 days:

1. Turquoise Necklace (Andean Collection)
Considering April is Earth Month I had to feature an earth-friendly staple. So I browsed Nancy’s Gone Green!, a fabulous eco boutique, for the perfect green treasure. The find? A bib necklace made from Tagua nuts. It’s shocking that this piece was crafted with fruit found on Ecuadorean Ivory Palms. Artisans slice, polish and hand-dye tagua, connecting the nuts with soft suede. The result is remarkable.

2. Colorblock Dress (H&M)
After selecting this dress for a shoot I did at H&M I just had to have it. Here are three ways I styled it on my models. I can’t wait to come out with six more fresh ideas.

3. Coral Belt (Target)
One of my fashion tricks is to buy children’s belts. The ones at Target are made to go at the hips of young girls so if you buy a large or x-large they can work as skinny waist belts. And for $8-$12 for a 2-pack you certainly can’t beat the price! This one came in with a gold glitter version but I chose coral since it’s one of the biggest color trends for spring.

4. Multi-Color Beaded Bracelet (Forever 21)
Originally I wanted to do bright enamel bangles this month. But I couldn’t resist this beaded bracelet. It has a boho element, perfect for creating trendy tribal and Southwest inspired outfits. And the stretch guarantees a snug fit.

5. Yellow Purse (Celine)
I’ve never used a handbag as ttF Fashion Staple before. But so many of you have asked me about accessories and I’ve been seeing yellow bags everywhere! This one is actually nine years old. I bought it during one of Saks’ mega sales. Just goes to show that a classic, even in a bright color, never goes out of style.

6. Colorblock Sandals (Pour la Victoire)
Knowing I was planning a month of bold color, my friend Kristen of Glitter n Glue pointed out these shoes to me as we were shopping at Loehmann’s.  I almost died when I saw them but was nervous about the price tag. Had we been in any other store my fear would have been valid. But they were marked down 70%! It was a match made in colorblock heaven.
