It’s been raining A LOT in NYC lately. Normally, I’d just throw on jeans and wellies and be on my way but I’ve recently been promoted at a fairly new job and I don’t want to look like I’m still in college. Any thoughts on what to do in this dreadful weather? —Denise
Great question, considering it’s raining a lot all around the country! One easy fix would be to wear your wellies on the way to work and keep a pair of heels in your purse. That way you can throw them on before entering the building and store your rain boots in a water resistant bag. I’m a huge fan of Rume. They’re eco-friendly and fold up small enough to fit into your pocket.
Option number two would be to buy a water-resistant shoe that goes from the street to the office. Apparently, you’re not the only one having this problem because there are a bunch of brands that have come out with rain ballet flats. And there’s something for everyone: (1) classic black from Däv, (2) feminine captoe from Hunter and (3) trendy leopard bows from Anthropologie.
A rain ballet flat is ideal for summer since a boot can sometimes get too warm. I’d wear them with a dress and trench coat or a cropped cigarette pant. If you go the pant route, make sure the leg is slim enough that you can cuff it on your way to work. You don’t want to walk to your desk with wet legs. Hope this helps and good luck staying stylishly dry!
