Renaissance Fashion at The Getty

Sydne-Style-shows-how-to-dress-for-a-renaissance-theme-partyOne of my favorite museums in Los Angeles is The Getty Center. It has the most incredible architecture and magical gardens surrounded by spectacular views. In honor of their new Louis XIV exhibit, they hosted a cocktail party to celebrate the Summer Solstice. Period dressing was strongly suggested. So what does one wear to a Renaissance theme party? That was certainly a tough one! I didn’t want to buy a costume so I worked with what I had in my closet.

I started off with a white lace dress as a base. Then  used my accessories to get into character. The Renaissance was all about ornate jewelry. So I piled on six necklaces (yes six!) to create a bold statement piece. I was at an event with a braid bar from The Glam App earlier that day so had them create milk maid braids, which I set with a gold headband. It was my modern fashion version of the Louis XIV era.

My friends interpreted the them in all different ways. Kristen went a similar route with a maxi dress and necklaces. Sheryl alluded to the collars of the decade with a bow-tie blouse. And Kelly tapped into the France element of the exhibit with French Riviera stripes. We had so much fun and I can’t wait to get back to The Getty soon!
