New York City is basically my second home. Both my parents grew up in New York so I’ve been visiting since before I can remember. Since I go there so often for work and to see friends (two of my besties live in the city!) I get to try out new restaurants every trip. I’m constantly asked where to eat in New York City. So since we’re smack in the middle of New York Fashion Week I figured I’d make today’s Sunday Bites & Sips a NYC restaurant guide to eight of my favorite spots. Follow along on Insta Stories (I’m @sydnesummer) because I’ll be trying out new places this week as well. Depending how they go I might need to do an updated list!
When I want gorgeous atmosphere…
NOMO KITCHEN {Soho}
9 Crosby Street, New York, NY 10013 / 646-218-6449
The Nomo Hotel is one of my top places to stay in the city. The restaurant is just one of the many reasons I stay there. The chandeliers on their own are Instagram worthy. I’ll often meet friends for drinks or brunch and stay for hours under the skylights.
{Menu favorites} Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and Spaghetti
When I’m craving pasta…
MALATESTA TRATTORIA {West Village}
649 Washington Street, New York, NY 10014 / 212-741-1207
I’ve been eating at this Italian spot for years. It’s my go-to in the city! It’s small, family owned and oh so delicious. It’s cash only so make sure to be prepared. But the prices are very reasonable. The tables inside are intimate and cozy but if the weather allows, try to sit on the patio.
{Menu favorites} Artichoke Salad and Tagliatelle Al Ragu
When I want a fancy lunch spot..
ABC KITCHEN {Flatiron}
35 East 18th Street, New York, NY 10003 / 212-475-5829
A friend introduced me to this delicious gem for lunch a couple years back. I often find myself craving their crab toast when I’m back home. It’s open for dinner as well but I prefer to enjoy the natural light of this gorgeous restaurant during the day. It’s also connected to a home store that will get your design juices flowing.
{Menu favorites} Crab Toast & Kale Salad
When I want oysters and cocktails…
SEL RROSE {Lower East Side}
1 Delancey Street, New York, NY, 10002 / 212-226-2510
One of my favorite parts about NYC is walking the city and discovering hidden secrets. I accidentally stumbled upon this little spot ages ago and it’s since become a go-to. They have oyster happy hour (need I say more!) and it’s the perfect unpretentious spot to catch up with friends.
{Menu favorites} Oysters (duh!) & Lavender Piscine
When I miss LA…
THE BUTCHER’S DAUGHTER {Nolita & West Village}
19 Kenmare Street, New York, NY 10012 / 212-219-3434 / 581 Hudson Street, New York, NY 10014 / 917-388-2132
I usually find myself eating my way through New York City. And my body feels it! So when I’m craving something more LA, aka on the healthier side, I meet my friends for a fresh, organic lunch or snack.
{Menu favorites} Avocado toast & Green Juice
When I’m in the mood for a bagel…
MURRAY’S BAGELS {Chelsea}
242 8th Avenue, New York, NY 10011 / 646-638-1335
There are bagel options on every corner of New York City. But this small bakery is my forever favorite. There’s not much seating so I recommend getting your order to go and eating on the High Line if weather allows.
{Menu favorites} Multi-grain bagel with jalepeño cream cheese, cucumber and tomato
When I need comfort food…

159 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10016 / 212-481-3800
I’ve been visiting this cozy spot since college. It’s a great place to meet friends when you don’t feel like getting dressed up. It’s like getting a piece of home when you’re away from home. I generally go for lunch but it’s very popular for brunch as well.
{Menu favorites} When Veggie Met Sally & Old School Mac n Cheese
When I have a sweet tooth..
THE STANDARD GRILL {Meatpacking}
848 Washington Street, New York, NY 10014 / 212-645-4100
While many people visit this tried-and-true spot for the scene, I go for the decadent desert. The have this large bowl of creamy mousse called The Deal Closer. Order it with cookies, dip them in and thank me later.
{Menu favorites} The Deal Closer & Wake and Bake
I hope you enjoyed my list of my go-to New York City restaurants. Is there anywhere you’d recommend trying?

Thanks Natali!
Thanks for the guide
Thanks for the guidance. I’m going to visit New York next month and will definitely try to visit all of these restaurants. In every restaurant, I love style and creativity. I believe that even small cafes should stand out, at least they should have their own custom prints, like https://mcdonaldpaper.com/custom-printed-products/ on packaging and equipment for the restaurant to have its own charm.
