An Easy DIY Truck Frame That Makes a Great Last Minute Father’s Day Gift

My son and I did some crafting a few months ago when his cousins were in town. We ended up making a DIY Father’s Day frame using popsicle sticks and some random supplies from my crafts bin. We created truck and bus frames, complete with personalized license plates. As for the base of the frame? Duplo! I’m in my toddler boy mom era after all.

It’s a really easy DIY Father’s Day frame gift… or any other day you want to gift a truck or bus-loving man in your life. Bonus? No glue required!

How to Make a DIY Father’s Day Frame (Truck Edition)

Popsicle Base
We used colored popsicle sticks to make things easier (and less messy). But you could always paint plain sticks if you prefer.

  1. Tape two sticks together on the back with duct tape. Repeat three times.
  2. Tape four sticks together on the back with duct tape.
  3. Cut out a square from a cardboard box.
  4. Place your popsicle sticks on all four sides and secure them with duct tape in the back.

*Optional: Use a black Sharpie to color in the bottom fourth popsicle stick.

Photo Moment
Cut your fave photo into a square and use double stick tape to attach it to the cardboard.

Tip: I talked about this in my Mother’s Day DIY post, but if you have a kid, I seriously recommend investing in a photo printer. There are small ones, but I decided to get a regular printer that also does photos. After tons of research, I ended up with this Canon one. It’s so great, my parents ended up getting one too!

Truck Decor

  1. Cut out a white rectangle from a thick sheet of paper or white cardboard.
  2. Use a Sharpie to personalize the license plate.
  3. Attach with double stick tape.

*Optional: Get creative with your decorations. We used gems and tape for lights and pipe cleaners threaded through pop tabs to make a ladder for the fire truck frame.

Duplo Base
We used a wheel base from my son’s Duplo bin to create a rolling DIY Father’s Day frame. Then we stacked some blocks in the middle so the popsicle frame could rest on the blocks. To be honest, I don’t know much about Legos, but I’m assuming there’s a similar version if your kiddo is older.

Bonus? My son loves driving his truck with his Papa!

Happy Father’s Day!

That sounds like such a fun and creative project! I love the Duplo base idea, perfect for that toddler boy era! My little one gets restless sometimes, especially when we’re waiting. For those moments, I actually keep the Dinosaur Game on my phone handy – it’s surprisingly engaging and a good distraction for a few minutes. Crafting with popsicle sticks is always a win though!
