ttF Fashion Staples Series Diary: It Brit
When I put this outfit together, I felt very British, like one those cool London “It” girls who isn’t afraid to take a risk. Mixing striped patterns is certainly a risk, but the reason it worked here is I kept to a simple color palette. I used the stripes to my advantage by having vertical on bottom to slim and elongate and horizontal on top to broaden my bust and narrow shoulders. And belting the skirt gave the illusion that I was wearing a dress—in fact, at least four of my co-workers asked me if it was one piece. I was very surprised because this is my sixth time wearing the shirt this month, and five of those six times were in the office. Even my best friend at work, who photographed me in the shirt, didn’t notice. I was thrilled. It means my year-long project is working. Fashion staples can look completely new if you style them in different ways.
