How do you get the tail of your belt to stay pulled back? I’d love to try this look but when I wear belts like that above my hips the extra slack sticks out and ruins the look. —Brianna
I often run into the same problem. My hips fill out average size belts but my waist is a little smaller. Not to worry, I have a few solutions for you:
1. Vintage is your BFF
The bronze belt you commented on from my November staples is from Shareen Vintage in Los Angeles. Vintage shops usually carry smaller size accessories than modern stores.
2. Bring it to a Shoemaker
If you have a belt you absolutely love but hate the extra slack, take it to a shoemaker. Have him cut it for you and poke extra holes if needed. While you can do this yourself on inexpensive finds, unless you’re a crafty queen I recommend leaving it to a professional when it comes to your splurges.
4. Shop in the Kid’s Section
I know it may sound crazy but if you need just a plain waist belt try the kid’s section. The basic black and brown boys belts at Target fit my waist perfectly in XL (I actually used one in January’s staples, which is reversible!). The girls’ section has some fun glitter ones, too. The best part? They are SO cheap.
4. Knot It
This doesn’t work for wide belts, but if you’re doing a skinnier style try the popular knotted belt trend, which Burberry made oh so popular for spring.
