I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone. I remember sitting at my parents’ house over the holidays last December brainstorming what I should do differently on ThinkThruFashion. I decided to embark on a year-long series showing how to make the most use out of your wardrobe by rethinking fashion staples. And so the ttF Fashion Staples Series was born. It is now the last month! To celebrate, I picked pieces that had a luxe feel: sparkle, faux fur and shine.
Here’s the breakdown of the 6 Fashion Staples I’ll be wearing at least 6 Different times for the next 31 days:
1. Brooch Necklace (Micha Design Broochelicious)
Back in February, I showed how to wear a crystal brooch 6 different ways. This time I’m taking it one step further with five brooches! Jewelry designer Micha Kuechenhoff created this necklace using vintage and current finds. It has the ability to make any outfit sparkle.
2. Black Turtleneck (Forever 21)
The black turtleneck is a huge trend for fall. In a recent episode of Mystyle 3-Way, I showed how you can wear the sweater to the office, over the weekend and to a party. Well, get ready for six more styling options.
3. Black Bustier (Burberry)
It’s hard to see the bustier in this picture, but it’s a satin top that hooks together down the middle. Classic Burberry plaid lines the sweetheart neckline and there’s a thin piece of tulle that pokes out underneath. I bought it years ago on major sale the day after Christmas. And, considering lingerie inspired clothing continues to be a major fashion trend, I thought it would be fitting to bring it back.
4. Faux Fur Vest (Rachel Zoe for QVC)
During New York fashion week, I ran into Rachel Zoe while wearing a faux fur vest she designed for QVC. I had borrowed it from a friend so unfortunately, I couldn’t keep it. But I was sent this similar version which I’m excited to wear.
5. Faux Leather Leggings (Forever 21)
I still have my real leather pants that are nearly 10 years old now (I wore them over Halloween). But I gained a few inches over the holidays and they’re incredibly tight. While leather is supposed to be snug I never want to experience getting stuck in them like I did after I gained my Freshman 15 in college. So instead, I picked up these inexpensive leatherette leggings. They have more stretch so I don’t have to be worry about any holiday dieting.
6. Crystal Bow Platform (BCBG Rhinestone Bow Pump)
I originally planned to do a black glitter heel for my holiday shoe staple. But then I saw these as I was preparing for my styling presentation at BCBG. I was sold. The bows were like jewelry for my feet. And the platform made the high heel more than bearable. Fingers crossed they stay that way during my holiday parties!
