To celebrate her 30th birthday, my best friend Maria had a Great Gatsby party in New York City. I thought about going the traditional flapper route, as I’ve done for past Roaring 1920s costume parties. But with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan’s movie set to debut next year, the fashion world has gone into a Gatsby tizzy. The result? Art deco accessories and beaded options galore!
I borrowed this gorgeous dress from Parker for the special occasion (similar versions here and here). I added backseam tights, gloves and Sole Society lace heels—and adapted to the more is more theory when it came to jewelry. For makeup, I went with a smoky eye and Victoria’s Secret drama lipstick in “Unpredictable.” Later in the night, I added an oversize feather to the mix.
It was a gorgeous evening in NY followed by a disastrous next day. I’m very thankful I was able to get home during Hurricane Sandy. My heart goes out to everyone in the Northeast. Stay safe! xo
Oooh, I almost did something similar for Halloween this year! I love that dress — totally works for a theme party or anytime. 🙂
Thanks Katy! Agreed, minus the gloves and pearls I could wear it anywhere!
Such a cute look! Loving your dress! Happy Birthday!

Where did you find that dress!?!!?
Hi there Sydne,
Could you please tell me if you changed the spaghetti straps to thicker ones?
Thanks Jessica.
I kept it the same but it was a sample dress.
How do I get a sample dress?
