Even though you couldn’t tell with all the snow at fashion week, there are only 29 days until Spring. This makes shopping tricky. You want to stay warm but you also don’t want to wait to wear all the cute new styles for the season. That’s where layering comes in.

Layering was a huge trend on the runways. Even Hervé Léger made their bandage dresses more subdued by layering tight long-sleeved tops underneath. Another big trend? Winter white. At Hervé, it was embellished with grommets and sequins. While over at Mara Hoffman, creamy whites were paired with camel and gold for the designer’s homage to earth and the animal.

I took inspiration from Mara’s theme with my own layering. I started with white: distressed jeans (on sale!) and a linen tunic. On their own, the two pieces from Old Navy are perfect for summer with sandals. But to make them appropriate for now I added winter neutrals: boots, a comfy sweater, fedora and faux fur collar. The finishing touch? A timeless trench (only $59.94!). Depending on what you have underneath, you can wear the jacket all-year long.
