Unless I’m hiking Runyon Canyon, it’s very rare that I wear sneakers. But earlier this year I pulled out my back and had no choice. I was limited to sneakers for a week and even after my physical therapist encouraged me to wear flat shoes with support as much as possible for the following month. I thought back to this time after a reader emailed me wondering how she can make sneakers look stylish.–
One way I like to wear my sneakers is with skinny jeans. I think this look is especially great with a more classic, heavier sneaker like these New Balances. For this outfit, I combined two trends from the A-Z Trend Guide: A is for Athleisure (the sneakers) and C is for Crop Top Layering (wearing a cropped sweater over a summer blouse). The easiest way to instantly dress up a pair of sneakers is to carry a chic handbag. Bucket bags are big for fall and an exotic material (even if it’s faux like mine) makes everything look more luxe.
