Crop tops and shorts don’t exactly sounds like they can be sophisticated. But with the right styling, this summertime combo can be quite chic! I wore this outfit last week for an influencer dinner and it kept me cool while still fitting in with all the stylish ladies in their pretty dresses. Here are my three tips on making crop tops and shorts classy for summer:
Look for tailored pieces.
When you want a more sophisticated outfit in general, stick to clothing that has clean lines and a bit of structure. I love this crop top because it’s a bit thicker, giving it more of a constructed shape. The gold buttons on the shoulder also help elevate the shirt. A crisp pair of shorts is the perfect pairing.
Mind your hemlines, necklines and waistlines.
My rule of thumb is when I’m wearing something short on bottom, I like to keep my neckline higher. That’s why I went for a round-neck, t-shirt style. I also try to stay away from showing my belly-button unless I’m at the beach. So when I’m wearing a crop top, I always do a high-waist bottom.
Keep your footwear sleek.
A flat is a great option when you’re wearing shorts and a crop top. But if you’re a shortie like me and want a little height, make sure to go with a streamlined heel. I added a pop of color with my floral print sandals (now on sale!). But for extra leg lengthening, a nude shoe works wonders.
I hope these tips help you when you’re planning your outfits this summer! If you have any questions on how to wear the latest trends feel free to ask in the comments below!
