Whenever I’m traveling, I pack pieces that can easily take me from day to night. The shirt dress has been a longtime fave. Depending on the color and print, the classic style works year-round. I fell in love with the rust colors of this fall floral print shirtdress (it’s only $37.99!). And I wore it for a full day of meetings and dinner in NYC. Here is how to take a shirt dress from day to night for fall.
For daytime, I belted the shirtdress and added black booties. Since it got a little chilly, I layered a leather trench coat on top. You can really do any jacket you have in your closet. You just want to pay attention to hemlines. If the dress is at the knee or below the knee like mine, either go for a cropped jacket or a longer one that hits just above the end of your dress.
For night, I turned the dress into a jacket by unbuttoning it and layering it over my fave camisole and black jeans. I could have kept the same booties but since we were going to a casual dinner, I swapped into studded booties to add some edge.
