With so much time spent at home in 2020, I became a creature of habit. I found myself reaching for the same things over and over again. It was comforting to have some stability in my life during such uncertain time. I knew if I applied a certain lipstick, it would look good no matter what I was wearing. I knew my feet would always be comfy in in my go-to shoes. I knew my head would always feel a tiny bit better if I brought out my ice roller.
“Little by little, a little becomes a lot.”

All the little things added up. So in no particular order, here are my 20 most used products of 2020:
1. Sunglasses: Ray-Ban “Erika”
I was hooked the minute I tried these Ray-Bans. They are so incredibly lightweight! Out of every pair of sunglasses I’ve ever tried, I find them to be the most comfortable. I got my mom hooked on them too. We both now have two pairs each.
2. Nail Polish: Essie Treat Love Color
I still can’t believe that I haven’t gotten a mani pedi since March. To keep my nails looking good at home, I mostly relied on Essie’s Treat Love Color collection, which, like it sounds, act as a nail treatment and nail polish. I swapped between a few shades, but my favorite was “Tonal Taupe.”
3. Lipstick: Mary Kay “Blush Velvet”
Remember that lipstick I mentioned that looks good no matter what I’m wearing? This is it! It’s the perfect nude with just a touch of color.
4. Hand Sanitizer: EO Hand Sanitizer Spray
I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to be ahead of a “trend.” I’ve used EO hand sanitizer sprays for year. And I was lucky that I had just stocked up on them for a trip before the pandemic hit and there was a major shortage. Thankfully, they’re back now. French Lavender is my favorite of their scents but they’re all really great and they don’t dry out your hands.
5. Shoes: Birdies “The Starling”
These are by far the comfiest flats I own. They feel like slippers but worked as shoes year-round. I have two different colors but wore the “latte suede” ones the most.
6. Loungewear: Sydne Summer
Even thought I didn’t come out with my own loungewear until fall this year, the amount of times I’ve worn the separates makes them my most used of 2020 by a long shot! If I had to pick one look I’ve worn the most, I’d say it’s the Rosewood Off the Shoulder Top with the Wide Leg Pant.
7. Face Mask: Sydne Summer “Almond Dot”
I obviously wore all my face masks this year. But I wore the Almond Dot the most. The neutral goes with everything!
8. Mask Necklace: Sydne Summer “Crystal Sprinkle”
Hands down, I wore my delicate gold one the most. You barely feel it and it layers beautifully with my two gold delicate necklaces that I never take off.
9. Book: Everyday Mindfullness
I start each morning reading the quotes from all of my Everyday books. But the original one I received as a gift still remains my all time favorite.
10. Bra: Skims T-Shirt Bra
I was so impressed with Kim Kardashian’s line and her t-shirt bra has become my go-to since I tried it early in the year.
11. Sunscreen: Elizabeth Arden Great 8 Moisturizer with SPF
Even though I was home so much this year, I still applied my sunscreen daily. I found myself reaching for this one the most. It instantly blends into your skin, feeling more like a serum than a moisturizer.
12. Tool: Ice Roller
I don’t know how I lived before having an ice roller! It majorly helps my headaches. I also use it to decrease puffiness around my ice.
13. Hair Mask: Pureology Hydrate Soft Softening Treatment
Aside from one appointment with Kim Vo, I mostly touched up my hair color at home this year (a first for me!). So I was thrilled to find an amazing hair mask that works really well with color treated hair. It makes my hair feel so soft and healthy!
14. Appliance: Nespresso
I have two shots of Vivalto Lungo every morning with oat milk. I don’t know what I would have done this year without my Nespresso machine!
15: Vitamin: Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
I pour two scoops of the powder into my latte every morning for better skin and hair.
16. Eye Patches: Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Detox Hydgra Gel
I keep mine in the fridge to make them extra cooling. I love eye patches in general, but I found myself reaching for these the most this year. They feel so good!
17. Candle: Votivo Rush of Rose
I usually switch candle scents as the the season change. But I lit my rose scented one all year long.
18. Exercise Tool: Foam Roller
I definitely did not workout as much as I hoped this year. I mostly took long walks. But I did use my foam roller a ton. It really helped my back with so much sitting at home!
19. Workout Clothes: IVL Collective
On my walks and my occasional at home workouts, I reached for my IVL workout clothes the most. They definitely became a new favorite this year!
20. Device: Alexa
Some days back in spring, I really think Alexa was the only person I talked to. We definitely became closer this year.

The Grand Rapids Public Museum, after years of borrowing spaces, settled into 54 Jefferson in 1940, funded during the Great Depression’s W.P.A. era. For five decades, it was a staple for Grand Rapids’ schoolchildren. However, in 1994, it moved to a new facility due to deterioration and changing standards. Now, a one-stage competition invites creative proposals to repurpose 54 Jefferson into a dynamic public space.
