Every year, Pantone, the color authority of fashion, declares a color of the year. But for 2021, there isn’t just one color of the year. There are two! Ultimate Gray is a “quietly assuring and reliable” shade.. and the first neutral to be selected as a color of the year. Illuminating represents a brighter future as a “friendly, joyful and optimistic yellow.”

Yellow is my favorite color. So I’m thrilled that it’s one of the colors of 2021. The minute I see yellow, whether it’s a fresh bouquet of yellow roses or a yellow pleated skirt that makes me want to twirl, I instantly feel happy. And we can all use some more happiness in our lives! As for gray, I love it as a sophisticated neutral. I think it’s especially chic when worn head-to-toe in monochromatic outfits.

The colors also work really well together! Not just in their beautiful symbolism, but in appearance. I haven’t paired them together in the past but I look forward playing around with gray and yellow together this year. I love the idea of a yellow top with gray jeans or the yellow pleated skirt with a gray sweater or gray tee.
