A few years ago, I did a wellness project in honor of Mental Health Awareness for the month of May. I basically posted a snapshot to Insta Stories every day of something that made me happy. At the beginning of 2021, I decided to take that gratitude experiment, and expand into a year-long daily exercise.
I’ve tried various forms of gratitude practices over the years. When I write down what I’m grateful for, it generally ends up being the same: family, friend, home and health. But I realized when I photographed what makes me happy, my gratitude list expanded. Some days, it might be a walk with a friend that makes me happy, which means I’m grateful for sunshine, fresh air and the ability to walk. Other days it might be the smell of fresh coffee that makes me happy, which means I’m grateful for a lovely home and the financial stability to have my Nespresso machine. Other times, it’s seeing the sunrise or sunset, which means I’m grateful to be alive and live in such a beautiful city.
I’ve been taking pictures every day this month. I save them to an album in my phone. Starting today, I’m going to share them on Insta Stories, too.
