For the past year, I’ve been trying to find a pair of mom jeans that works for curves. While I am on the petite side, I do have a curvier figure. And fitting into the high-waist, vintage style jean was virtually impossible. The straighter fit was always too tight on my hips and too loose on my waist. I finally gave up, reminding myself that not all trends work for everyone. Then I slipped on a high rise kick flare, and discovered I had finally found my version of the mom jean.
So what is the mom jean trend? It’s a high rise style of denim that was super popular in the ’90s and joked about on SNL (if you haven’t seen the skit it’s hilarious!). It’s made a major comeback in the fashion world, and celebrities from Dakota Johnson to Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner have been rocking the trend.
Generally, the style is more tapered, but that’s where I realized I had all the problems. By swapping out a tapered leg for a kick flare, I was able to finally find a jean that worked for my body. I highlighted the vintage style with a striped polo and suede platforms. If you’re on the shorter side, like me, it definitely helps to slip into a chunky heel when rocking the trend.
