ttF Fashion Staples Series Outfit #7: July Blues

July seems like the most American month of the year. And it’s not just because of Independence Day. July is also National Hot Dog Month, Blueberry Month and my personal fave, Ice Cream Month (Ronald Reagan designated the month the year I was born. And anyone who knows me knows that my sweet tooth is all about ice cream).

So I decided to show my support for the USA this month with All-American denim. Here’s the breakdown of the 6 Fashion Staples I’ll be wearing at least 6 Different times for the next 30 days:

1. Striped Button-Down Shirt (Forever 21)
I initially wanted to do a denim shirt as a staple. But I waited to the last minute to get one and J. Crew was out of my size in the one I wanted. So I popped into Forever and got a striped button-down instead. It’s a classic and the rolled up sleeves have a utilitarian feel.

2. Chambray Scarf (7 for all Mankind)
This scarf was in a gift bag at a 7 for all Mankind spring preview I attended last year. It’s so incredibly soft and came quite in handy while I was helping Reinaldo Izarry style a shoot. You might be thinking, wait, isn’t it summer? Why a scarf? But the lightweight material is ideal for spring and summer months. You can wear it with maxis, minis and it’s perfect for covering up when you go from 100 degree weather into freezing air conditioning. Celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba and well, basically all Hollywood girls, are all about it.

3. Denim Cutoffs (vintage Levi’s)
If you don’t mind showing your legs, denim cutoffs are a must in summer. I got mine during one of Urban Outfitter’s amazing sales. I think they only cost about $25. The more distressed the better.

4. Blue Crystal Bracelets (lia sophia)
After seeing the colorful jewelry on Nicole Richie and Kristen Bell at the Met Gala, I was inspired to dig through my jewelry box and find these blue crystals.

5. Denim Jacket (Gap Kids)
This jacket is ten years old. I bought it in the boy’s department at GAP when I was visiting some family in NYC. The best part about shopping in a kid’s store? The clothing is way cheaper. Wherever you get yours, a denim jacket is a must. It goes in and out of style over the years and right now is very, very in.

6. Plastic Peep Toes (Melissa)
Funky shoes are a great to way to inject a dose of fun into basic looks. I got so many compliments when I wore my Melissa Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Lady Dragon Ball heels ($148.24)  that I had to make them a staple.
