What To Wear To a Black Tie Wedding

Sydne-Style-wears-a-navy-lace-gown-for-a-black-tie-weddingWedding season is in full swing. I don’t know about you, but my schedule is jammed packed. I already attended one gorgeous affair in Pacific Palisades the other weekend and have three more to go! Today I’m giving some ideas on what to wear to a black tie wedding.

I went with navy for both looks. Aside from white, any color goes for black tie weddings. The reason I like navy is it’s timeless, you can wear it every season and it’s a little different than black, which at least half of the wedding guests will wear.

Lace is a huge trend right now. And I instantly fell in love with the illusion neckline of this Tadashi gown. I also really liked how the panels of lace on bottom gave the dress a youngerΒ feel, yet it’s classic enough to wear year after year. The rest of the material is thick enough to hold you in so you don’t have to worry about eating that wedding cake! For a modern update, I slicked my hair back into a sleek ponytail.

Sydne-Style-what-to-wear-to-a-black-tie-weddingThis second look is what I wore to a black tie wedding last month. It’s actually my second time wearing this dress to a wedding! I transitioned it from Nicole Miller’s show at fashion week to my friends NYC celebration in September. Just shows how much use you can get out of one piece! It’s a jersey material, which if is great if you’re traveling for a wedding: no wrinkles! Plus, it’s extremely comfortable. While it is form-fitting, the draping makes it very flattering for all different body types

Instead of gold like my previous looks, I added silver accents with plenty of jewels. I pulled my hair into a deep side part and straightened it for a sleek statement.

Gorgeous! Love how you pulled your hair back in a pony for a modern twist. And the back of that Nicole Miller Dress is to die for.

Both dresses are beautiful but especially love the first one! The lace panels are so pretty and feminine and the mermaid silhouette flaunts the figure so perfectly, you look stunning in it!

Found your site accidentally while looking for dresses for my daughter and me for an upcoming family wedding. You look stunning in the Tadashi Shoji Gown – Sleeveless Pintucked Illusion Lace Inset which I found on Bloomingdale’s site. You, like my daughter are 5’3″ and wear higher heels…does that mean you bought the dress in a regular rather than petite size? Also, do you think that if the bridemaids are wearing navy long dresses (different make and style from BLHDN) that my daughter should not? Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much! I’m wearing an XS and had it taken in a bit. I think it’s fine for her to wear navy as well, such a classic color. Hope she enjoys the wedding!
