I’ve given up on counting days of the quarantine. In fact, I’ve given up on counting weeks, too! I think I’m week 5 but it might be week 6. Who knows anymore? I’ve been continuing my Quarantine Theme of the Day every day, which has definitely helped spark joy. My favorite theme has definitely been art day. I’ve really enjoyed getting back into sketching, and found it so fun to partake in the challenge going around Instagram that encourages you to recreate a famous painting.
The other week, I enlisted Jack Jack to help me recreate Frida Kahlo’s self portrait with a monkey. This week, I brought all the pups along for the challenge and did my own version of a Takashi Murakami painting. Hustle ‘n’ Punch is one of my favorite paintings at The Broad museum in LA. It’s so vibrant and playful and we had so much fun doing our own version with floral headbands and bunny ears. Here are some other things I’ve been loving recently…
5 THINGS I’M LOVING RIGHT NOW
#1: art account
My fave new account to follow on Instagram is @tussenkunstenquarantaine. They started a challenge where you are encouraged to recreate your favorite artwork using materials found around the house during the quarantine. Since then, a bunch of museums like @gettymuseum have hopped on board with the challenge, too.
I’ve been blown away by everyone’s creativity. How genius is this Mondrian rendition with laundry?!
#2: sneaker sale
My fave white leathers sneakers are 40% off! I’ve been wearing them for years, and update them with a new pair about every 9 months or so. They also come in black and other colors. Actually, everything on Kenneth Cole is 40% off right now.
The company is also donating 1% of net proceeds to CO-VID 19 Solidarity Response Fund. They’re also featuring the Courageous Class on their Instagram, with spotlights on everyday heroes. I shared my friend, Sabrina, who is a nurse working every day in NYC hospitals.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner. A lot of local florists are closed, but Bouqs is still delivering bouquets from local farmers. What I love about the company, is they support local farmers from all over the world. Plus, you don’t have to send flowers in a vase. I know I have more vases than I need at home. So I personally enjoy to get a fresh bouquet of flowers I can put in my own vase.
Bloomingdale’s is having a major sale. Literally, there are deals on everything! My favorite sales are in the home section (probably because we’re all spending so much time at home right now). The silk pillowcases I sleep on every night are 20% off. And if you’re been thinking of getting a Nespresso machine (the coffee I drink every morning) now is the time! Almost every Nespresso machine is on sale.
Being at home 24/7 has turned me into a professional snacker. I seriously cannot go more than a couple of hours every day without eating! My favorite snack of the moment is Skinny Pop. They’re low calorie (only 100 calories per bag) and help curb my salty cravings. I usually douse them with Cholula to add a little kick.
