An Easy Outfit for Meetings to Airport Style in 6 Steps

There are many times when I need to go straight from a meeting to the airport. Instead of bringing a full outfit change, I’ve perfected a fool-proof combo that just requires an extra pair of shoes and jacket. The best part? All the pieces are classics, so you can recreate the look from season to season, year after year. Here’s the six items you need:

1. White Button-Down Shirt

You can never go wrong with a white button-down shirt. For summer, I like to go with short sleeve styles. And in the winter, I’ll generally layer them under sweaters.

2. Black Skinny Jeans

As much as I adore distressed denim, a classic pair of jeans is more appropriate for meetings. Look for ones that have lots of stretch so they almost feel like a legging—perfect for long plane rides!

3. Cross-Body Satchel

I generally like traveling with cross-body bags because they allow me to go hands free. But so many styles are very slouchy. That’s why I stick with satchels for work situations. The structured shape feels more professional.

4. Denim Jacket

I’ve had the same jean jacket for years. I love the look of denim with black and white. And when you wear in your favorite jean jacket, it can feel just as comfy as an oversize sweater.

5. Moderate Heel

I’m all for super high stilettos. But if I’m running from meeting to meeting, I try not to go above 3 inches with my heels. For summer, I’ll do a simple ankle strap sandal and in winter a pointy black bootie.

6. Lightweight Sneakers

These sneakers sure came in handy during my last trip! It took double the time to get to JFK and I would have missed my flight had I not literally sprinted across the entire airport. They’re lightweight enough for running (something I don’t generally do!) and for carrying in your bag (something I’ve become quite accustomed to!).

I carry my jacket and change of shoes in my expandable tote. My mom actually discovered this one and I immediately copied her. It’s been my travel bag for years! The nylon is super durable and I generally leave LAX with it zipped then somehow always end up needing to expand it before my flight home. It’s so hard not to pick up goodies when you travel!
