I’m all for mixing unexpected color combinations. When I started this column, Beyonce had me pairing bright orange and pink. Recently, I noticed a new interesting color duo: yellow and lavender. Mandy Moore recently stepped out in a yellow and purple Diane von Furstenberg dress paired with yellow sandals. And after the Met Gala, Kate Bosworth slipped into a yellow and purple Emilio Pucci dress.

Instead of buying a colorblock dress, I decided to try the color pairing with a more casual outfit. I brought out this purple lightweight sweater I’ve had for years (I just ordered new colors because it’s on sale!) and a matching clutch I’ve also had for quite some time. In the past, I’ve paired the purple with metallics or neutrals. But today I added yellow sandals to the mix. The stars on my jeans and a blingy statement necklace brought a touch of shine to my new colorful statement.

I just had to take photos of my look in front of the jacaranda trees blooming all over LA.  Every year in May, the city has a momentary burst of purple. The flowers quickly fall creating a ginormous mess but when they’re swept away at least I’ll still have my sweater!
