One of my favorite parts about living in California is there are so many excursions near by. This week, I joined my friend Ashley for a girls trip to Livermore Valley Wine Country. It’s a short flight from LA to Oakland, and just about 30 minutes from the airport, making it a great quick getaway. Here are some of the highlights from our trip…

The majority of the wineries are very close to each other. It’s just a quick drive or even walk to go from tasting to tasting. I pulled my back but if I was able to, I would have loved to bike ride to each winery throughout the day. We had a driver but there is also a cute trolley you can take.
My favorite winery was Murrieta’s Well. The grounds and the decor made me feel like I was transported to Europe. I could have stayed there all day!
As for experiences, I highly recommend taking a class a Wente Winemakers Studio. You get to taste wines and create your own unique blend, and then label and bring home your bottle! I did a custom Sydne Style blend that I can’t wait to drink back in LA.
The wines were incredible, but the food was also delicious. Some favorite were the brussels sprouts at Range Life, shrimp at Zephyr Grill, the ginormous pretzel at Bottle Taps and the goat cheese at Murrieta’s Well. I definitely didn’t follow my no-dairy rule during the trip!
There must be a genial ingredient in Livermore Valley wine because everyone is so nice! I loved hearing the stories of each winemaker. I also loved how dog friendly the town was. If you watch my video you can see some of the pups at Las Positas, Wood Family Vineyards and Longevity Wines. Phil at Longevity even named his Petit Verdot after his pup Preston!
I can’t say enough amazing things about Livermore Valley. Honestly, the only downside is lodging. Unfortunately, right now there is only one nice hotel in the town and it was booked during our stay. But there are two new hotels in the works right now. I can’t wait to go back… and hopefully bring Jack Jack! I think he’d just love Wine & Wags.
