One of the most popular hashtags of 2019 is #hotgirlsummer. To be honest, I didn’t really get the meaning behind Hot Girl Summer at first. I asked my #ssInstaFam to explain it to me and they did a great job. I later read this Time article, which has a full explanation of the Hot Girl Summer meme. The originator of the catchphrase also tweeted the explanation:
“Being a Hot Girl is about being unapologetically YOU, having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth , being the life of the party etc.” — Megan Thee Stallion
To carry Hot Girl Summer into Fall, I decided to create a Hot Girl Halloween costume…
the inspiration
I took inspiration from Megan Thee Stallion’s Fever album cover to create my costume. I looked for clothing that had flames and decided on this flame print cami. I ordered a sheer orange skirt and wore a black high waist swimsuit underneath. Then I just layered with lots of gold chain accessories.
hot dog summer
I wanted to have fun with the costume so I incorporated Hot Dog Summer with Hot Girl Summer Halloween. I found these adorable hot dog costumes for pets. Jack Jack hated it at first. But once he saw his bestie, Nugget, get in costume, his smile came out.

diy accessories
I DIYed two accessories for my Hot Girl Summer Halloween costume. I really wanted a pair of Prada flame sandals but couldn’t stomach the price tag. I did find knockoff flame sandals for only $30 but I decided I probably wouldn’t wear them again. So I created my own version by printing out a flames motif I found on Google. I simply cut around the edges and taped the paper to my sandals.
For my bag, I also used a flames background I found online and added Hot Girl Summer text on top. I then printed it out and simply folded the edges so they fit into my clear box clutch.
flame makeup
For makeup, I wanted to create a smoky eye inspired by flames. I used three eye shadows to create the look: Urban Decay “Petite Heat” for the base, NARS “Duoro” yellow for my inner lids and Smashbox “It’s Fire” for my outer lids and a touch of shimmer. Then I added some fake lashes and tons of bronzer.
I hope you like my Hot Girl Summer (and Hot Dog Summer) Halloween costume! I have so much fun dressing up with the pups and love how it turned out. I have one more idea up my sleeve and can’t wait to shoot it next week. In the meantime, if you’re looking for more Halloween costume ideas I got you covered! Check out all my Halloween costume ideas from past years.
