Now that we’ve got swimsuits covered, it’s time to talk summer beauty. I rounded up my top ten beauty essentials from nail polishes and sunscreens to secrets I use to get rid of sunburn. I got all my pool and beach products at CVS. As a CVS Beauty Club member, you earn ExtraBucks Rewards for beauty purchases, which you can use when you run out of products or forget them on vacay. It’s such a convenient way to shop for affordable products. And guess what? The same rule applies to my lip color. One product I’m loving right now is Neutrogena Lip Soother. The gloss has SPF 20 and a cooling glaze. You can wear it alone for a slight dash of color, as if you just ate a cherry popsicle. Or layer it over your fave lipstick for a bolder statement.
Nuance Salma Hayek is a line that’s exclusive to CVS. And their face sunscreen is amaze! I use the SPF 50 Sheer Liquid Veil. I hate having to aggressively rub in my lotions. This one is so light that it glides on the skin and is oil free.
My cheeks get really red in the heat. So I like to layer a tinted moisturizer over my face sunscreen to balance out my skintone. CoverGirl + Olay Tone Rehab smooths out your skin while hydrating as an added bonus.
I’ve always been a fan of sprays over lotions. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Spray has been my go-to for years because I’m obsessed with the scent! While I use SPF 50 on my face I usually only do SPF 15 on my body. But it comes in higher protection, too.
If I know I’m going to be out all day, I’ll bring an antiperspirant spray in my beach bag. I like how Dove Beauty Finish Dry Spray goes on clear so you don’t have to worry about any white spot while you’re laying out with your arms above your head!
The minute I’m out of the sun, I’ll use face-wipes to get rid of sweat so I don’t break out. Simple Radiance Cleansing Wipes are specifically made for sensitive skin, which is perfect for a long day at the beach or pool.
While salt water gives you those beachy waves, chlorine can majorly damage your hair. One little trick is to wet your hair with regular water before diving into the pool. Then when you’re showering later in the day, use a hair mask at least 2-3 times a week. I find L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Total Repair Balm especially great for color treated hair.
To prevent major calluses I use a foot file and pumice and the bottom of my feet every time I’m in the shower. It really helps after walking in the sand all day. You can use it with a foot scrub or simply with your regular body wash. CVS has a great line called Beauty 360 full of essentials for your feet, nails, brows and more.
Whether I have a sunburn or a tan, the minute I dry off from the shower I’ll apply aloe. I find traditional ones very sticky, so I prefer a spray (I know, a very common theme for my beauty essentials!). CVS Aftersun Aloe Vera soothes and hydrates… and even sprays upside-down!
After applying aloe, I hydrate even more with a body oil. I’ve found doubling up on these two products really prevents peeling. I generally apply over my whole body before going to sleep, then on my arms and legs in the morning. Nuance Salma Hayek Dual Phase Body Oil has a yummy coconut scent.
