3 Tips for Mixing Prints for Fall

Sydne Style shows how to mix prints for fall in leopard and plaidI’ve always loved the mixed print trend. I think it’s a fashion forward way to show off your creativity. And it’s easier than you think! In this outfit, I combined two prints from my Fall Trend Guide: plaid and leopard (subscribe to my YouTube channel to watch the episode soon!).

Here are my three tips for easy print mixing this season:

1. Stick to the same color palette.

Keeping your prints to one color palette is the simplest way to mix patterns. Earlier this season, I did an orange and navy mix. Today I did red and neutrals. If you’re nervous about two prints being too loud, simply mix black and white patterns for a more subtle take on the trend.

One print should always be bigger than the other. Since my plaid checks were quite large, I did a smaller leopard print sweater (last year I did a similar outfit with stripes instead of spots).

Since mixing prints creates quite the statement, go for classic pieces to complete your look. You can never go wrong with slim denim (I cut these to make them cropped). And a black bag and matching booties or pumps are always timeless accessories.

Still not sure about the trend? You can make it super easy with a pre mixed print piece!
